Greg Bicknell - Writer/Director
He first played guitar and sang an original song in front of a
church audience at the age of thirteen. The experience left Greg Bicknell decided upon spending as much of his life as possible…entertaining an audience!
In high school, he excelled in acting, even winning a dramatic award while continuing to follow his first love...which has always been music. From his earliest childhood memories, songs have been his best friends. After high school graduation he teamed up with local female vocalist, Karen Jackson. The two began performing together and doing guest spots for bands, singing at weddings and headlining a north Seattle club.
Eventually, they realized different goals and Greg decided to explore the opportunities of performing on a broader scale. He joined the US Army in 1978. Following training he went to Korea where he was a radio broadcaster for the American Forces Network. He entertained at the post recreation centers and the officer’s clubs. During the holidays he was flown by helicopter to entertain for the troops stationed at the radar sites on the communist border. He was yet to turn 20 years old.
He studied television production in Denver, Colorado and then spent three years at West Point, New York. While there, he continued performing from the base officer’s club to the ski resorts of the Pocono mountains and the tri-state fair in Pennsylvania.
By the late summer of 1983, his military
commitment was over. Now a single father, he and his 2-year-old son Christopher made the drive from New York with a good friend, in a 24-foot truck with everything he owned…towing his 1970 Mercury Montego to Seattle…in 4 days!
By the end of the 80’s, Greg and company were making numerous “low-budget” cable television shows…acting, singing and playing in “some of the worst dribble ever written”…in his own words, “but had a great time doing it”!
In 1988 he met singer/keyboardist Laura Breed, while they were working with a band on a video.
Greg, nearly a decade her senior, was incredibly captivated with the young singers beauty and talent. She thought that he was an arrogant, womanizing jerk…they were married a few months later and have been sharing their lives for over twenty years…“to borrow a phrase from some friends, don't give up five minutes before the miracle!"
In the early 90’s, Greg teamed up with Barney Lennartson, a veteran television producer from Salt Lake City. For a decade-and-a-half now, the two have been consistently challenged producing everything from sales videos and corporate parties to TV commercials…and surviving the digital revolution.
Early in the
new millennium, Greg struggled with the death of several close friends and backed away from working in front of an audience. While spending more time in the office, he wrote the screenplay for “Entertain The Moon”. When it was finished, Greg and Barney scheduled open auditions and cast the movie in November 2003, and began shooting…
FLASH FORWARD…
“…we know that it’s been going on five years of waiting and wondering…especially those of you who
gave so much of yourselves to this project…we thank you so much for your help, but it is finally ALMOST here! ”We are looking forward to bringing you “Entertain The Moon”!
Greg and Laura have three sons (and a daughter-in-law)…Christopher, age 28, Tony and his wife Stephany, both 22, and Holden, age 17, currently a drama star at Bothell High School. The family owns and operates three small companies and travel regularly.
The couple and their son Holden live in Canyon Park, just northeast of Seattle.
